Persistence

"per·sist·ence (noun): Firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition." — Dictionary.com

I am in awe of Persistence.

Out to see a waterfall, I stared at the gorge wall realizing how long the water has been at work carving out its place in layer after layer of rock.

That evening I traveled to watch a concert headlined by Children of Bodom. This is their "20 Years Down & Dirty Anniversary Tour."

These musicians have been honing their craft for well over the two decades. They showed true mastery of themselves, their instruments, and their whole performance.

Exceptional leadership is also a journey of persistence. It is our call to study the art of leadership. We must watch what works well, and what doesn't work well. We must puzzle out the mysteries of the differences. We must get out there every day and lead. Even on the days that throw every obstacle in our way.

There is a secret to persistence. Water has gravity. It is always seeking a way down towards the center of the earth. The best performers are always pulled to the thrill of providing their audiences with the moments of magic music can bring.

The persistent gravity of exceptional leadership is to set out every day to do a little bit of good in the world.

Yours in the calm pursuit of excellence,
