The Reader's Edge

"So many books, so little time." — Frank Zappa

There is a significant difference between good managers and exceptional leaders. The exceptional difference often includes this contrast. The good managers don't find time to read while the exceptional leader always finds the time to read.

The exceptional leaders are voracious consumers of information. They listen to audio books, they read books, they seek out others to hear their stories. The things they read spans multiple genres, time periods, and cultures.

These leaders are data collectors for information that might be useful now or even years down the road. They are storing up stories where things went well or of where things went poorly and how people responded.

And sometimes they find ideas immediately useful. They read, apply and then integrate.

Watch the well read people. The reader's edge is often part of their leader's edge.
